EVIDENCE-BASED MODALITIES

How Arooj works in the room

Arooj blends a trauma-informed lens with practical, evidence-based tools. Early sessions map the patterns that feel overwhelming: what sets them off, what keeps them going, and what you have already tried. That gives the work a clear target instead of circling the same ground.

Individual sessions run 55 minutes, and most courses of therapy run 6 to 9 months. We don’t rush the early sessions, and we check in regularly on whether the plan is working. The aim is steady, repeatable skills you keep after the work is done.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Structured work on the link between thoughts, feelings, and what you do next. You learn to spot the thought patterns that drive a worry spiral or a low week, and to interrupt them before they take over. These are tools you carry out of session.
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). The gold-standard behavioral treatment for OCD. You face a feared thought or situation in planned, gradual steps, and practice not performing the ritual that usually follows. Over time, many people find the anxiety takes up less of their day.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Values-based work for the thoughts you cannot argue your way out of. It is less about suppressing hard feelings and more about choosing actions that line up with what matters to you, even on the days those feelings show up.

OCD care at the practice is built on Exposure and Response Prevention, a structured, evidence-based approach to obsessions and compulsions. Learn more on the OCD therapy page.

POPULATIONS SERVED

Who Arooj sees

Arooj works with adults and adolescents. Her practice centers on four groups.

Adults

Individual therapy for depression, anxiety, OCD, and the adjustments that knock life off course: a move, a loss, a new role.

Adolescents

Teens working through anxiety, low mood, or OCD, with tools sized for school, friendships, and family life.

Women

Women’s health is one of Arooj’s deepest commitments: mental health across the stages, roles, and pressures that shape a woman’s life.

Immigrants & People of Color

Support for systemic stress and identity transitions, from a counselor who bridges cultural paths and works in English or Urdu.

LANGUAGE ACCESS

Counseling in English and Urdu

Arooj is fluent in English and Urdu, and clients can work with her in either. For many people, the feelings that matter most are easier to reach in a first language. They are harder to explain across a translation.

It also means family context needs no footnote. Clients from immigrant families, and adolescents growing up between two cultures, can talk about home, expectations, and identity with a counselor who bridges both worlds. For families looking for an Urdu-speaking therapist in Naperville, that option now exists close to home.

OCD & ERP

Structured Help for OCD

OCD is one of Arooj’s focus areas. She uses Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the behavioral approach with the strongest research support for obsessions and compulsions, alongside CBT and ACT.

ERP is gradual and collaborative. You and Arooj build a ladder of feared situations together and start low. You practice facing each one without the ritual that usually follows. She works with both adults and adolescents.

ABOUT AROOJ

A Counselor Who Treats Therapy as a Partnership

Arooj approaches therapy as a collaborative partnership. Her first job is to build a safe, grounded space where you feel seen and respected. Nothing useful happens in a room where you are editing yourself. From there, the two of you work out what is keeping you stuck and what to do about it.

She practices at Gryzbek Therapy & Psychological Services, a deliberately small Naperville practice where licensed clinicians coordinate care instead of working in silos. Every clinician on the team is licensed. When your needs sit outside one clinician’s strengths, a colleague down the hall covers them.

Arooj is deeply passionate about women’s health. She is equally committed to supporting immigrants and people of color as they process systemic stress and identity transitions. That often means the strain of living between cultures, expectations, and versions of yourself. Fluent in English and Urdu, she does that work in either language, which makes her a natural fit with the practice’s multicultural counseling.

She also works to remove the stigma that still surrounds mental health. For many clients and families, walking into a therapy office is the hardest part. Arooj makes that step ordinary, with plain language, practical tools, and no judgment about how long it took to get here. Her sessions are a space to talk first — and a place to build skills second.
